Afternoon tea at Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum (Kleine Fleischergasse 4, 04109 Leipzig)
The oldest continuously operating coffee house in Europe!
Coffee!
Kleckselkuchen (made of Kirsch, Mohn & Quark)!
Also bought a giant chocolate bar (Edelbitter 62% Kakao) & a Leipziger Lerche from Hussel Confiserie!
Leipziger Lerche is a Leipzig speciality. The name originates from the Lerche bird, which was roasted with eggs & herbs & served as the pastry filling.
Nowadays the Leipziger Lerche filling is replaced by a cherry as well as a mixture of crushed almonds & nuts. The cherry symbolises the heart of the Lerche bird. The pastry is typically topped with a grid of two crossed dough strips.
I would say, the Leipziger Lerche experiences a similar transformation as that of the British mince pie. Anyway, the Leipziger Lerche tastes really good!
Had a delightful day in Leipzig! I would definitely go again & again!
